Kansas City, MO – The Newmark Grubb Zimmer team of Michael VanBuskirk, SIOR, CCIM, CRE and Chris Robertson represented Christie Development Associates, LLC in the acquisition of the Kohl’s department store at 12381 W 95th Street in Lenexa, Kansas. The purchaser was also represented by Ferd Niemann Brokerage and Consulting, LLC. The building was originally built in 1994 and features a 105,000 square foot plus box currently 100% occupied by Kohl’s with convenient access to I-35 in one of the busiest retail corridors in the Kansas City metro area. The seller was TIC Lenexa Limited Partnership, who was represented by Kevin Curtin of Kessinger/Hunter & Company, LC and Jeff Dozier of Point Commercial.
Christie Development continues to be one of the Midwest’s most active retail developers with active projects in Kansas City, Topeka, Belton, and Lee’s Summit. David J. Christie, principal of Christie Development, started in the real estate business in Dallas, Texas in 1979. In the early years the company focused on land acquisition, brokerage and grocery anchored retail development. The company was moved from Dallas in 1989 to the Kansas City area where it continued its focus on grocery anchored shopping center developments with clients such as Albertson’s, Kroger, Fleming, Winn Dixie, Associated Wholesale Grocers, and HyVee.
